Traditional Japenese Tea Ceremony Performed in Professor Graham Jones' class 21A.150

The Japanese Tea Ceremony has been kept alive by three family lineages dating back to the 16th century. This fall, Kyoko Wada, an instructor in the Urasenke lineage, gave students an initital lesson in the ancient ritual as part of the subject of 21A.150, "Teaching and Learning: Cross-Cultural Perspectives. The class explores the ways that different cultures organize practices of teaching and learning. Wada explained that mastering the tea ceremony takes a lifetime.

Sarah Wylie, co-founder of Public Lab and Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Northeastern University, presented her work to President Obama at the 1st White House Maker Faire. Sarah who received her Ph.D. from MIT in 2011 has been working with Associate Professor Christine Walley and communities in Chicago to map petcoke piles from Tar Sands refining.

MIT music documentary pays tribute to the Arab Spring

The PBS affiliate WGBH Boston/Channel 2 will air the MIT music documentary "Awakening: Evoking the Arab Spring through Music" on Friday, May 31 at 10:30pm. The documentary was directed by MIT Anthropology lecturer Chris Boebel and is the first work that MIT Video Productions has produced specifically for broadcast television.

Iris Sheu wins 2013 Howe Prize
